So, What DO We Get From Porn?

Beyond some eye-candy stimulation and something to masturbate to, maybe some new positions learned, really what do we get from porn? This has been the question every unsatisfied housewife has asked, arm-chair pop psychologists have set-up their practices or T.V. shows over and all of society has damned other factions of society over for years. Maybe if we could get an answer why people take to porn, or why we ourselves find we need dirty movies in our lives, we could all move on and away from all this fucking viewing.

Porn

The fact of the matter is, we don’t need porn probably as much as we simply like it. It is a diversion from the everyday, maybe even from good intimacies we enjoy with a steady partner. Porn is a fantasy we like to entertain for the few moments we watch it and porn can be a naughty little secret we allow ourselves or share with a small cadre of people. Porn can make us at once part of a community as well as solidify our aloneness and porn can reinforce some needs we have as well as fell others we fantasized about but suddenly seen are not any we want to continue to pursue.

What bothers the critics is that they either want porn and can’t admit it, are literally torn apart by their desire and grow angry at themselves for being so human or they simply do not understand the prurient interest to watch others fucking and therefore mock what they feel are base desires of others. But porn is just another in a long line of diversions, fantasy imaginings, nothing more or less. That it is about sex might throw it into a wholly unique category of things we indulge in for a past time, but porn is still really, and will always be, one of the many entertainments we enjoy.

And maybe in the end that’s what’s really the big mystery about porn…how long we have had it with us and how it will never go away.
