The human body and mind together contain all the things necessary for survival, repair and reproduction. Even in dealing with the heavy aspect of stress and its ill effects on the body, the human being is equipped to deal with that through healthy sexuality

The link between sex and stress relief is one science has studied for the last ten years at least. In a healthy relationship, making love serves to establish and strengthen the emotional bond required for a balanced relationship. Emotionally connecting with another human being has been proven to help in times of massive distress.

Physically, the body itself undergoes several processes that through sexual intercourse start healing. In an Arizona State University study on 58 middle-aged women, physical affection or sexual behavior with a partner significantly predicted lower negative mood and stress, and higher positive mood the following day. Researchers found that sex and physical intimacy led women to feel less stressed and be in a better mood the next day.

The street runs both ways in conjunction with stress and sex. Simply put, lower stress can lead to more frequent fucking and more sexual encounters can lead to lower stress. The release of endorphins in the adrenal glands help the body to cope with the mess life throws our way and production of these feel good hormones helps mental capacity and focus. Cortisol levels in women who experience positive sexual and physical encounters are lower, the same is not true with just physical affection such as hugging or cuddling.

Several studies have hypothesized that hormones released during arousal and orgasm, specifically oxytocin and DHEA, may also have protective effects against cancer and heart disease.

Research has also pointed to the sedative and relaxing effect of oxytocin and other endorphins released during orgasm, which may explain why people use masturbation as a way to get to sleep, and why sex is a wonderful way to distress. Studies have been done on the frequency of male ejaculation and reduced rates of prostate cancer as well, due to use of muscles not normally engaged otherwise. Masturbation alone is healthy but even more beneficial is the healthy sexual encounter.
