One of the things Angelina Jolie is loved and hated for is the amount of kids she has. The tattoo on her left shoulder symbolizes the geographical coordinates of the childrens’ birthplaces. Not surprisingly she’s had to update frequently.
N 11º 33′ 0″ E 104º 51′ 00″ represents the Phomn Penh, Cambodia, location where adopted son Maddox was born.
N 9º 2′ 0″ E 38º 45′ 0″ marks Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where adopted daughter Zahara was born.
S 22º 40′ 26″ E 14º 31′ 40″ shows Swakopmund, Namibian, where she gave birth to daughter Shiloh.
N 10° 46′ 0″ E 106º 41′ 40″ indicates Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, birthplace of adopted son Pax Thien.
N 43º 41′ 21″ E 07º 14′ 28″ shows the location of Nice, France where she gave birth to her twins — son Knox Léon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline — in 2008.
Jolie’s most often seen tattoo is of a Buddhist inscription that she got for her adopted son, Maddox. Interestingly, the tattoo was done in traditional Thai style – using long needles and a hammer by Noo Sompong Kanhphaiin, who also did the Bengal tiger on her lower back. During the tattoo process Jolie was required to kneel in prayer.
The inscription translates as: “May your enemies run far away from you. If you acquire riches, may they remain yours always. Your beauty will be that of Apsara. Wherever you may go, many will attend, serve and protect you, surrounding you on all sides.
The tattoo was also used to cover up a chinese symbol of death.
While every man has probably imagined ramming his cock into angelina tight little ass from behind, there’s a tattoo for that. A fierce Bengal tiger protects the actress from various sex stalkers and soap droppers of all kinds. The tattoo was done in Bangkok in 2004, again by Noo Sompong Kahpaiin, who chanted a hymn as he worked.
Angelina Jolie’s left wrist features a runic inscription. It represents the letter “H” and she got the tattoo while dating Timothy Hutton… but she has said it represents her brother, James Haven.
Adding to her very much so inked left side, Angelina has an inscription from Tennessee Williams and a series of Roman numerals.
The Williams quote reads, “A prayer for the wild at heart kept in cages.” She had the tattoo done after completing the film “Girl, Interrupted.” Also on that arm are a series of Roman numerals. It began with an XIII, representing the number 13, to show that the actress was not superstitious.
But maybe she is — because she later added V MCMX — turning it into a date: May 13, 1940.
That’s the date Winston Churchill said, “”I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.”
On the inside of her arm is the Arabic inscription العزيمة” (pronounced: al-‘azeema). It means “the determination” or “the firm will,” and, unlike briny, her tattoo is actually spelled correctly. Speculators also say the tat could have another meaning as well: “the incantation” or “the spell.”
This tattoo was one of Angelina’s greatest regrets, one that followed suit with her late great boyfriend Billy Bob Thornton. They were married from 2000-2003, and were said to wear vials of each others blood.
She commented on the tattoo later saying,
“I’ll never be stupid enough to have a man’s name tattooed on me again”, she said, according to Softpedia.
Angelina Jolie had the “Billy Bob” tattoo removed… but kept this dragon for a while, although even in this photo it appears that the laser treatments to remove it had begun.
Angelina may be best known for her vast humanitarian efforts, and that is why she had “know your rights’ written on her neck in gothic lettering.
“I think it’s what comes down to everything for all these people, for refugees, for everybody. It’s for them to know what their rights are, and then gives them the ability — for children who are trafficked, for women who are vulnerable, for everybody,” she told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in 2006. “The Declaration of Human Rights says everybody has the right to an education, or everybody has the right to freedom of movement. Everybody has the right — you know, that these things are in our law. If you really look into it, we’re all protected somehow.”
As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Jolie has worked with refugees around the world.
Jolie also sports a black cross right over her crotch.
“I got that the day before I married Jonny,” she told USA Today, referring to her 1995 marriage to Jonny Lee Miller. “It was all symbolic, and it was a good thing, nothing dark.”
She also has the Latin phrase “Quod me nutrit me destruit” on her stomach, which means “what nourishes me also destroys me.”
Jolie may have promised herself never to get another man’s name tattooed on her body after the Billy Bob Thornton fiasco. But she hasn’t stopped marking her body for the men in her life — she recently got another tattoo, this time to honor partner Brad Pitt.
The tattoo, on her inner thigh, was spotted during a recent Vanity Fair photo shoot — but not well enough to make out what it actually says.
“It’s for Brad,” was all Jolie had to say about it when asked by MTV.
